Niektórzy, parząc na sztukę mówią: “każdy mógłby to zrobić”. To bardzo naiwny i niewykształcony sposób myślenia. Jak człowiek inteligentny może powiedzieć coś takiego? To mi przypomina kolegę z Albanii, który studiował ze mną w Paryżu. Zrobił świetny obraz, bardzo atrakcyjny, taki zygzag. Pani sprzątająca przyszła do nas i mówi: “co to, taki zygzak, mój pięcioletni syn też mógłby taki zygzag namalować”.

Oczywiście, że każdy może zrobić. Ale co innego nadać temu sens, co innego stworzyć kontekst, który byłby ważny w interpretacji świata. To jest sztuka. W średniowieczu ważyło się wartość dzieła sztuki na podstawie ilości gramów złota, karminu, zużytego czerwonego pigmentu. Za ten obraz się płaciło tyle, bo tyle było czerwieni. I tylko imperatora czy biskupa było na niego stać. A my przeszliśmy teraz na inny etap. Mamy wszystko, a nadal brakuje nam myśli.

Pamiętajmy, że radość czy chęć czynienia relacji międzyludzkich lepszymi, zmiany świata, to też jest komunikat.

Some people, looking at art say: “anyone could do it”. It is very naive and uneducated way of thinking. How an intelligent man can say such a thing? This reminds me of a friend from Albania, who studied with me in Paris. He made a great painting, very attractive, some kind of a zigzag. Cleaning lady came to us and said: “What is that, some kind of zigzag, my five year old son could paint this”.

Of course that anyone can do it. But it is something else to give it a meaning, create a context that would be important in the interpretation of the world. This is art. In the Middle Ages the value of a work of art was based on the number of grams of gold, carmine and red pigment used. You paid a price for the painting based on the amount of red color in it. And only the emperor or bishop could afford it. And we went to a different stage now. We have everything, and we still lack ideas.

Remember, that the joy and desire to make human relationships better, to change the world, is also a message.
